When it comes to the most classic road trip route in the southern area of Hong Kong Island, it is “Deep and Shallow Cliff”, but there is no parking place on the route, and it is more difficult to park low and enjoy the scenery. Holimood has selected some self-driving tour routes in the southern area that can be parked and enjoy the scenery to recommend than everyone, and then get off the car and sigh slowly~
First stop: Chung Hom Kok Park
Located on a promontory in the west of Stanley, the park faces the invincible sea view, the environment is quiet, and the frequency of minibuses is scattered on weekdays, so it is more convenient to go by car and the time is easier to control. Drive towards Stanley, turn right in front of Stanley Gap Road and drive to the end of the road to reach Thornkan Kok Park.
The park is built along the coast and surrounded by Chung Hom Wan and Stanley Bay, and you can see the vast blue sea in the park.
There are the remains of the gun emplacements in the park, which were previously defensive facilities of the coastal military, but the cannons have long been removed, and now only the gun bed and the semi-spherical protective cover remain. Many people also came to this “end of the earth” to take photos.
Second stop: Stanley Street
From Takan Kok Park, leave the car park from Stanley Gap Road to Stanley Beach Road, and walk a little to Stanley Street. Stanley Street is full of continental atmosphere, plus many foreigners here, the whole atmosphere seems to be in a foreign country.
Stanley Market is like a European town, selling many local specialties such as leather, antique toys, handicrafts and more, as well as souvenirs with Hong Kong characteristics.
There will be music performances in the square, and sitting in the square and listening to live performances is very leisurely. There are also many exotic restaurants on the street, if you want to try Fusion cuisine, don’t miss it, it is very vacation-like, eat something and then set off~
Canoes and stand-up boards are also available for rent at Stanley Main Beach, so you can also go to play if you are interested~
Third stop: Tai Tam Reservoir
From Stanley Gap Road, drive all the way along Tai Tam Road to Tai Tam Reservoir. However, be careful if the road is narrow.
After rain, the overflowing water from the pond flows down the dam, creating a curtain of water, which is spectacular.
Stop 4: Shek O
From Tai Tam Road to the roundabout, turn right into Shek O Road, until you go to Shek O Beach Car Park, you can get off and go to Shek O for a walk~
Walking into Shek O Village is like going to a small town in a Mediterranean city. The houses in Shek O Village are very distinctive, the exterior walls are decorated in different colors, yellow against blue, shiny orange with purple, bright and eye-catching, used as a background for check-in is most suitable, but remember to keep quiet while checking in so as not to disturb residents.
Lovers Bridge is also one of the famous landmarks in Shek O, which is loved by tourists because of its romantic blue tone, and is a check-in spot for couples! After going to the various check-in locations, if you like excitement, you can experience ziplining, rock climbing and abseiling, challenge and break through yourself.
Instructors with many years of teaching experience and rich climbing experience will teach you basic climbing techniques and basic abseiling techniques, so as to prepare the most professional equipment for you to play safely and at ease! Rock climbing, abseiling places to take photos and check in first-class, back to the sea facing the mountain, you can also enjoy the scenery of the cliff wall.
